Nine beliefs

Before I got mixed up in the bureaucratic blender I derived nine beliefs I still live by:

:.. There are no secrets to be found in literature

:.. A writer has no reason for writing

:.. The power and integrity of art is due to its principles

:.. Words are the oldest living beings

:.. The true critic is she who manages to get Lazarus out

:.. A text left to itself is like the note found among Nietzsche’s papers: "I forgot my umbrella"

:.. You can fake profundity but not the talent for writing

:.. Style is knowledge

:.. There is no use for texts whose reception is decided beforehand

Try for yourself:
As I was going up the stair I met a man who wasn't there. He wasn't there again today. I wish, I wish he'd stay away.
-- Hughes Mearns, The Psychoed
